這是世界最大的化石森林,樹木化石散布在彩繪沙漠各地.兩億多年前這裡是一個湖泊,有濃密的樹林,約6000萬年前地殼漸漸隆起,經長時間風化腐蝕森林化石露出地面形成現在的國家公園.
這個化石國家公園座落在彩繪沙漠裡,沙漠裡有五顏六色的小山丘,是因年代不同,有不同的環境風化而形成不同顏色我們在 Petrified Forest National Park 走了幾條步道,有些是沒有步道的步道叫做Off the Beaten Path.
Giant Logs Trail
位於彩虹博物館背面,這是最熱鬧遊客最多的一條步道,遊客聚焦於公園裡最大的一株巨木化石.想和這巨木化石拍照得排隊等候.
Crystal Forest
一小時的短步道,蜿蜒於彩色小山丘間,散步其間悠閒地欣賞已經變成水晶化石的古代巨木.
Red Basin/Clam Beds Hike, 8.5 miles (13.7 km) round trip.
這一條步道是Off the Beaten Path.是我們在這國家公園裡所走步道最具挑戰性的一條,因為判斷錯誤走得太遠,差點迷失在沙漠中,但是這過程非常有趣,沿途欣賞兩億多年前的樹木化石散布在最原始的彩繪沙漠,不只是多彩的景色誘人,那種時空延伸的情境,讓人放任地進入無限大的世界裡,與上帝接軌.
Billings Gap Overlook Hike Off the Beaten Path
這一條步道也是 Off the Beaten Path,這種步道沒有任何標示,完全根據步道的敘訴,觀察地形來走,需要很小心,否則容易迷失於沙漠中.沿著高原的邊緣走,欣賞腳下沙漠盆地裡自然原始的各色小山.
Blue Mesa Trail
Blue Mesa 約兩億年前形成.步道鋪設很平坦易走,沿途坐落許多藍色小山丘非常特別.這是一條重要的觀光步道,藍色的小山丘很美,是一條賞景的短步道,難怪遊客特別多.
Petrified Forest National Park is a United States national park in Navajo and Apache counties in northeastern Arizona. The Petrified Forest is known for its fossils, especially fallen trees that lived in the Late Triassic, about 225 million years ago. The sediments containing the fossil logs are part of the widespread and colorful Chinle Formation, from which the Painted Desert gets its name.
